You've just invested in your family photography session, now you're excited to plan it, right?! One of the best (and, sometimes most stressful) parts of planning your session is choosing what to wear. A lot of my clients ask me for outfit guidance. I'm hoping this blog post will give you just the inspiration you need to pick the perfect set of outfits for your session.
1. The most important tip of them all! BE YOURSELF! If you don't normally wear dressy clothes, don't wear them to your session. If your son hates button down shirts, don't put him in one. If your family is hipster style, dress that way. Your daughter hates tutus? Skip it. If you're uncomfortable in your clothes, it definitely shows in your photos. One of the best things about lifestyle family sessions is the authenticity. This session is designed to capture the essence of your family as. they. are.
Dress your best, but dress like YOU.
2. Coordinate, but don't match. Long gone are the days where white polos and jeans are acceptable clothing choices for a family session. To be completely honest, the whole family matching is cheesy at best. Go for colors + patterns that compliment each other, pick a color pallet and use that as inspiration (I have some pinned here).
3. Dress in layers. This is going to add texture to your photos + allow for taking things off just in case it gets warm.
4. Dress around mom. So go shopping for yourself mama, get something nice and new that fits great and makes you feel amazing! I love seeing mom in a long flowing dress (or not, if that's not your style) or just something that you feel great in! Get your outfit covered and build everyone else off what you're wearing.
